While law enforcement agencies spend a great deal of resources in an attempt to stop the importing of marijuana and other illegal drugs into the United States. They also are keenly on the lookout for home grown sources. Drug charges related to growing, selling, and distributing marijuana can result in very serious criminal penalties.
Last night in the South Las Vegas Metro Police mounted a raid on a house that they had suspected was being used to grow marijuana. A police spokesman claims that the raid uncovered approximately 400 separate marijuana plants. They suspected, that based on the maturity of the plants that they assert were found in the house, the operation had begun about four months ago.
According to a report last night from the Las Vegas Sun, the raid followed a report from neighbors of the house in question. While it has not been reported exactly what the neighbors may have suspected or indicated having had seen to the police, the report from the neighbors was apparently sufficient form the point of view of law enforcement officials to justify additional action.
The Metro Police put the house under surveillance, and reportedly obtained a warrant for the raid. The regular Metro Police, along with the SWAT Team and other agencies initiated the raid at about six-thirty last evening.
Each of the 400 plants that they claim to have found was estimated by police to have a potential value on the street of up to $3,000, for a total value of over $1 million. Two suspects were arrested in the raid.
