Rarely is the truth underlying an arrest for domestic assault exactly as it seems on the surface. While there may be instances where the incident that gave rise to the arrest was the only aberration in an otherwise happy and healthy relationship, that is very unlikely to be the case.

There are certainly those very tragic cases in which there has been an ongoing and abusive dynamic in which one partner is regularly and consistently the aggressor. But many times there is not one person who is more commonly the aggressor, but instead a dysfunctional relationship in which neither person is making very good decisions, and both parties are suffering.

This seems like it may be the case in a recent incident in Las Vegas in which a woman and her fiancé were both arrested and charged with domestic battery. The woman told police that she had been drinking before returning to her hotel room while her fiancé, and their infant son were waiting.

Apparently, the couple started arguing shortly after the woman arrived back in the hotel room. The woman admitted to punching her fiancé in the back of the head. But footage from the hotel security camera also showed that the fiancé had shoved the woman across the hall.

Obviously no one should be treated that way that this pair was treating each other. Hopefully when couples find themselves in situations in which they find they can no longer control their anger towards one another they will seek out resources to improve upon their situation.
